“To see the world in a grain of sand, And a heaven in a wild flower,
Hold infinity in the palm of your hand, And eternity in an hour.” – William Blake “To See a World”
We have been told that time is an illusion but for most of us we brush it off as some hippie new age bullshit that has no grounding in reality and we go off and continue to enslave ourselves to our clocks not knowing we are being enslaved by a concept we created which turns out is not grounded in universal reality. We hurry about, regret the past, and stress ourselves and our patience all because we believe time works in a certain way. This is the reason why we in our modern society never seem to have enough of this intangible resource: TIME. We always want to stop the clock or speed it up feeling victim to it. But when you study the physical laws of the universe and the mechanics of how the universe operates one starts to discover that time is more flexible than one would think and might not exist at all so it makes one wonder if we are all under a spell that is now the source of much of our anxiety: TIME.
I have compiled overwhelming proof to show you scientifically and mathematically that Time as we measure it is not an absolute constant that can be translated in clock form and TIME itself does not exist or apply at the most fundamental level of the universe. I propose that our illusion of time currently is disconnecting us from the true universal reality and our true identity: We are immortal spirits that exist in a eternal universe. Eternity is not everlasting time yet its a dimension where outside the realm of time, a place where time does not exist therefore there is no beginning nor end only the state of being. Science is now beginning to accept that our universe exists in eternity. But before I get too deep in mystical poetry allow me to show you the mechanics of Time.
In metaphysics there are three modes or aspects in creation that are the underlying principles behind all the phenomena in all realms in all of existence which are: CONSCIOUSNESS, MATTER and MOTION (the real trinity). All planes of existence function through these three modes inseparably in conjunction with the universal laws.
TIME is a concept which is connected to the motion aspect of existence.
The concept of TIME as we know it, is created through the observation of the relationship of MOTION (M) in a given SPATIAL DIMENSION. For example the observation of the motion of a planet moving in space. MOTION is measured by VELOCITY and space is measured by the formula for VOLUME. Than there are other aspects of motion like SPEED, ACCELERATION, MOMENTUM which have formulas that measure each element of motion; lets not forget the forces that influence motion like FRICTION, GRAVITY etc.. Velocity is not speed but here is a good page that describes the difference between speed and velocity: http://www.physicsclassroom.com/class/1dkin/u1l1d.cfm
Overstanding this we must use the mechanics of motion to demonstrate how time operates. Our observation of objects moving through space is how we came up with the idea to start measuring the duration of the motions through space like the the motion of earth around the sun which turned into the concept of CALENDAR TIME. TIME as we know it is dependent on the observation of the VELOCITY of a mechanism. We then created time by breaking down the velocity of an object into man-made increments to allocate a measure of duration and you get what Newton called “LINEAR TIME” or what I call “VECTOR TIME” and this is the idea behind clocks. Clocks work through a mechanism of motion being in the form of gears which make up the set frequencies of the motion. For example: A minute gear would spin at a different frequency than a second gear.
So if TIME is dependent on Velocity which is a quantity based off of vectors (lines) than we must overstand Velocity and the related forces to see if it is an objective reality or a mental illusion. But before I get into the mechanics of “VECTOR TIME” lets see how the physicists define time and how they look at linear time.
Time in physics is defined by its measurement: time is what a clock reads. – Considine, Douglas M.; Considine, Glenn D. (1985). Process instruments and controls handbook (3 ed.).
Time is the measure of durations of events and the intervals between them. – Internet Encyclopedia of Philosophy
In or around 1665, when Isaac Newton (1643–1727) derived the motion of objects falling under gravity, the first clear formulation for mathematical physics of a treatment of time began: linear time, conceived as a universal clock.
“Absolute, true, and mathematical time, of itself, and from its own nature flows equably without regard to anything external, and by another name is called duration: relative, apparent, and common time, is some sensible and external (whether accurate or unequable) measure of duration by the means of motion, which is commonly used instead of true time; such as an hour, a day, a month, a year.” – Isaac Newton
What this is basically saying is that Newton admits that time in a quantifiable sense TIME is not connected to anything in external reality aka the universe, which makes it a mental fiction that only exists because we created this “relative” concept to use it as a device of reference. This relative concept was “measured” by the means of a clock which is a device subject to the laws of motion and forces of friction which would cause the clocks to become inaccurate as “time” passed bringing the need for constant maintenance, resetting, replacing of the gears and this constantly pushed early clock makers to make more and more accurate clocks.
The accuracy of clocks have always been a precarious thing. We went from pendulum clocks which need maintenance, to quartz clocks was better still but still not consistent as every quartz is different and the way it is manufactured will determine its oscillating frequency and the frequency will change with things as subtle as temperature changes making the rate of the clock be behind or ahead. Now scientist came up with the atomic clock which is based off of the “consistent” oscillation or vibration of the atom which sets a certain frequency. The most fundamental level of the universe is the subatomic level and the motion on this level is explored in quantum mechanics because the only things that are ultimately moving in the universe are atomic particles and these atomic particles are moving in a non linear way and quantum mechanics has not been incorporated in the CLOCK system of measuring duration and I will show you why.
Einstein proved that time as we know it is NOT a “universal constant” in his General Relativity Papers and yet in the rat race world we have turned TIME into “something that is universally constant and consistent” and something that we live and die by instead of looking at it as nothing more than a number on a dial. He also proved depending on the location of a clock it would determine whether the clock would go relatively slower or faster. For example, Einstein predicted that clocks sitting on the Earth (which had more net force) would run more slowly than those clocks at a higher elevation and those out in space (which would have no net force). This was experimentally verified and the Global Positioning System (GPS) compensates for this effect in order to maintain its consistency. Not to mention the fact that when we look at the sun we are seeing what it looked like 8 minutes prior. Albert Einstein concluded in his later years that the past, present, and future all exist simultaneously. Einstein wrote a letter to Michele Besso’s family, saying that although Besso had preceded him in death it was of no consequence, “…for us physicists believe the separation between past, present, and future is only an illusion, although a convincing one.”
Yes, time as a construct has been a convincing illusion but also a useful tool in economics and other areas of life. Yet the fact remains that our culture now regards this relative concept as an absolute universal reality and this is shaping our experience and our consciousness to only think a certain way about time. We are already experiencing time in a different way than our ancestors who culturally shared had similar views on time like the Egyptians and Mayan cultures. Take the Chinese ancient classical book “I CHING” which was written as far back as 3000 years ago and you will see how they described time working in a cyclical way not a linear way like in “VECTOR TIME” and their description of the mechanics of time of predicting time cycles where very sophisticated and are similar to how quantum physicists are beginning to describe time: which time is set like infinite fractals instead of straight vectors. This way of looking at time can maybe explain things like precognition of events (esp) or what some people have experienced as synchronicity.
It turns out that our minds and our beliefs may dictate how we directly experience “CLOCK TIME” independent of space and motion and this is demonstrated in quantum mechanics or the physics at the most fundamental level of the universe and this would also help explain why time seems to warp in certain situations for us. In order for us to understand the mechanics of motion on the surface level with what we see with our physical eyes we must understand the mechanics of the motion happening on the deepest level.
This article illustrates the role of the quantum variable of consciousness perception in how we experience different forms of time. The article is entitled “The Doors of Time Perception”
Dr. Meck from Duke University says there is a very interesting relationship between the sense of time and Einstein’s special theory of relativity. According to the theory, two observers in relative motion will perceive the timing of events differently. For example, what can be simultaneous for one will not be for the other…. From what I could understand of Meck’s experiments, the brain may have different clocks working together but independently. These clocks will sense timings in different ways and only the context will select the “winner,” that is, how we perceive the passage of time. Here, it seems that the many observers in relative motion live inside a single brain.
Dr. Meck brings up a fascinating idea that our brain may have different “clocks working together but independently” kind of like different levels of time perception or consciousness perception of time which made me think of something profound. Is this the reason why time works differently in different situations like the stage performer on stage when they are in the zone they all say they loose all sense of time. Or when we smoke a mind altering herb and we feel an hour had passed when we come to realize the clock says only 15 minutes passed. Or when we practice different meditation techniques are we then unlocking other “CLOCK” levels or dimensions in our brain. And if we can consciously unlock these other levels of perception of time can we ultimately develop it to the point where we can slow down the perception of time like Neo did in the Matrix so we can dodge multiple bullets with ease. Just a thought 😉 But on to more science.
There seems to be some scientific backing to the Neo ability. It turns out that high levels of adrenaline in the blood will allow you to process information in a way that supersedes the framework of time. David Eagleman at the University of Texas proved this with his bungee experiment. Eagleman had volunteers perform a backwards bungee jump free-fall while he transmitted a rapid succession of numbers to an LED on their wrists. He found that during the fall they were successfully able to read the numbers, which under normal conditions would have appeared too fast.
There is a book by G.J. Whittrow written in 1972, “The Nature of Time” which says:
“the passage of time is merely to be regarded as a feature of consciousness that has no objective counterpart.”
So if he observed that time is a feature of consciousness then depending what type of consciousness you are expressing then that will reflect in how you experience time. Lets move on and see how science is now showing that time really does not exist.
In an article from Discovery Magazine entitled “TIME MAY NOT EXIST” written by Tim Folger the article says this:
The possibility that time may not exist is known among physicists as the “problem of time.”… The problem, in brief, is that time may not exist at the most fundamental level of physical reality. If so, then what is time? And why is it so obviously and tyrannically omnipresent in our own experience?
Classical “Linear Clock Time” actually has now been proven to NOT exist on the most fundamental level of physical reality and this was shown by the discovery of Plank Length which is what is the foundation for the Plank Constant in physics.
The Planck length is the scale at which classical ideas about gravity and space-time cease to be valid, and quantum effects dominate. This is the ‘quantum of length’, the smallest measurement of length with any meaning.
Plank Length is roughly equal to 1.6 x 10-35 m or about 10-20 times the size of a proton. On this scale of the universe a second could drag on for eons.
Carlo Rovelli, a physicist at the University of the Mediterranean in Marseille, France. “It is an issue that many theorists have puzzled about. It may be that the best way to think about quantum reality is to give up the notion of time—that the fundamental description of the universe must be timeless.”
Another hole in CLOCK TIME and something most physicist don’t even take into account when setting a standard of time that is “absolute” is the fact that the universe is constantly expanding with some parts of space expanding faster than the SPEED OF LIGHT! So now we have a clock that is set to a never changing system yet it does not compensate for the unpredictable expansion of space which affects the motion of objects. A small article from Universe Today entitled “HOW CAN GALAXIES RECEDE FASTER THAN THE SPEED OF LIGHT” explains how galaxies can move faster than the speed of light. Another point the article brought up is that dark energy or dark matter is a factor in accelerating movement in space which could mean that dark energy could also be an influence in time warps and alternate time experiences. With VELOCITY there are also other modes of motion like ACCELERATION and MOMENTUM. And the ACCELERATION of space expansion is a factor that could potentially influence the consistency of the physical mechanisms of “CLOCKS”.
So if the universe is expanding but not in a predictable way and some galaxies moving faster than the speed of light and Einstein proved that when one travels at the speed of light clock time goes out the window and is relative to the observer to the point where you could experience a year but the clock would say only a hour passed.
Noone can deny that TIME is the measurement, in intervals, of motion in relation to space. With velocity we come to another element that questions the dependability of setting an accurate measure of time called the “Uncertainty Principle” found in quantum mechanics which was discovered by Heisenberg in 1927 and puts another hole into Newtonian “VECTOR TIME”. In order to measure motion within space we must integrate the classical formulas for VELOCITY and SPEED and incorporate it with a Quantum quantity which would be the variable that describes the effects of the perception of the observer through algorithms of which is how they created the illusion of “Linear Time or VECTOR TIME”:.
VELOCITY is a vector quantity that refers to “the rate at which an object changes its position in space.” But when you understand how the “Uncertainty Principle” comes into play here is where “QUANTUM TIME” becomes a . ” Heisenberg wrote this about the uncertainty:
The more precisely the position is determined, the less precisely the momentum is known in this instant, and vice versa. – Heisenberg, Uncertainty Paper, 1927
Velocity is at the core of how we experience “VECTOR TIME” because in the case of the clock we are actually dealing with the velocity of the instrument measuring the duration of the motion through space; for example the object being the clock hands and as it hits each interval marker as “seconds” pass it is changing its position in space.
Heisenberg discovered that on the atomic level the more you define the position the less we can precisely measure the momentum of the object and vice versa (on a subatomic level) through space. And what makes this interesting is that what is claimed as the most accurate clock in the world to date is the “ATOMIC CLOCK”. Atomic clocks work by using atomic physics to set the clock to a frequency that is set by the vibration of atoms. Atomic clocks are going through many changes and compensations are being made to strive for the most accurate clock but setting a stable time scale becomes precarious when you are dealing with atoms as Heisenberg discovered.
CLOCK TIME is now influencing our psychological experience of “time” and whether or not this is beneficial or not is still up to debate. But thinking time works in a linear way leaves us living linear lives and makes us forget how multidimensional we are. In affect our minds and programmed beliefs dictate how we experience time at any given moment which is how QUANTUM TIME works. That there is a direct relationship with Time and the MIND. So instead of VECTOR TIME giving the idea that every yearly cycle will feel the same length to everyone universally we allow each individual with their own dimension of observation to have the variable of experiencing a yearly cycle in different ways according to their mental programming which can be changed with different belief patterns.
This is why I introduce the idea of “QUANTUM TIME” which includes the quantum variable of consciousness perception, versus “VECTOR TIME” which does not incorporate the variable of perception in its formula and is a limited model of time in the sense that it does not incorporate the Heisenberg principle in setting a standard device based on motion. QUANTUM TIME takes into consideration the understanding that time is flowing out, not moving forward or backwards, from the center of our own awareness of the everchanging transforming flux of motion, energy and space that we experience as the moment or the NOW. QUANTUM TIME would incorporate the variable of consciousness perception, which is an everchanging variable that affects subatomic activity. Quantum time leaves for the flexibility of different timelines intersecting from the multidimensional universe and the phenomena such as wormholes and time warps.
Historically different cultures like the Egyptians and Aborigines believed TIME worked in a different way then how we perceive time to work now. Native cultures believed that the spirit lived independent of time as did the Egyptians. The Egyptians had a concept of the Ka or spirit body. Shamans believe time is a mental faculty and is something flexible to the point where our minds can work outside the limitations of time. The Aborigines speak of what seems like another dimension we can all access here, called DREAM TIME where past present and future intersect like overlapping fractals. Ironically time has been shown to work different in the dream world and this is exhibited by the fact that when one is awoken and then falls back to sleep and starts to dream again they can experience what seems like hours in the dream only to be woken up again and see that only fifteen minutes had passed.
Mystics and quantum physicist are starting to deliver the same message that the universe is time-less. What this is proving is that the universe is eternal and energy is immortal as it can not be created or destroyed only transformed through forces. Doing this research I realized that if the universe is inherently eternal than this might have been why our wise ancestors believed in reincarnation. Reincarnation makes sense if our experience is meant to be timeless and constantly changing like the universe. In essence if we remember that time is an illusion than we can transcend the spell of “VECTOR TIME” and have the realization of our minds controls our reality and shapes the universe and enter the “QUANTUM TIME” paradigm.
In conclusion time itself is an illusion in that it is a subjective reality that we are all co-creating and experiencing. But by releasing old belief patterns, letting go of the attachment to time, and doing things like meditation or even psychedelics we activate different centers of our minds and we can start to change the quantum variable of consciousness perception of which changes how we experience the motions and cycles of time. This will open the window to the possibility of living our lives in a universe where time works in our favor supporting the universal truths that we are having an eternal experience and our spirits exist independent of time and space.
